Inkcarceration Festival , Ghost Stories from Ohio State Reformatory and a Weekend at Landoll’s Castle

There are countless music festivals around the world, but few offer an experience quite like Inkcarceration. Held at the historic Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield, Ohio, Inkcarceration combines the power of live rock and metal music with one of America's most fascinating landmarks. For one weekend every summer, the former prison becomes a gathering place for music fans, tattoo enthusiasts, history lovers and those of us who are drawn to the paranormal. This year, more than 65 bands took to three stages, with Disturbed, Bad Omens and Limp Bizkit among the biggest names on the bill. Fans traveled from across the country and around the world to experience the performances, but between sets, I could also explore the vast prison complex itself. That made Inkcarceration feel like much more than a music festival. The surroundings were just as memorable as the music.

Abandoned theme parks always have an unsettling atmosphere, but few places I've visited compare to Lake Shawnee. Hidden away in the hills of West Virginia, this forgotten attraction has become famous for its ghost stories, tragic history and claims that it sits on cursed land. After spending a morning exploring the deserted site, I left with far more questions than answers. I arrived just before dawn, when the world was almost silent. Thick fog drifted across the lake and the abandoned rides slowly emerged from the mist. The stillness was almost overwhelming. Standing on the shoreline, I could see an old school bus slowly disappearing into the landscape, looking as though it belonged in the final scene of a horror film.
