If you love horror films as much as I do, then The Horror Show at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles is an experience you won’t want to miss! Blurring the line between cinema and chilling spectacle, this fascinating exhibition takes you on a journey through the world of horror, bringing some of the most iconic films, characters, costumes and props to life. It’s an opportunity to step beyond the screen and get up close to the objects that helped create some of cinema’s most unforgettable nightmares.

There is something about Halloween that brings out the kid in all of us, and Magic of the Jack O’Lanterns at South Coast Botanic Garden in Palos Verdes, California, takes that feeling to a whole new level. Imagine wandering through a beautiful botanical garden after dark, surrounded by thousands of glowing pumpkins, larger-than-life sculptures, familiar faces from music history, and imaginative scenes that feel straight out of a movie.

I go full pedal to the metal when I hits Iron Maiden’s sold-out gig in Los Angeles. I attend a theatrical masterclass in metal that leaves Bruce Dickinson howling at the moon and conjuring werewolves. I arrive at BMO Stadium, a gothic thorn amongst over 20,000 metal-headed roses. As the sun sets over Los Angeles, I gaze in awe at the sold-out crowd. Even if I wanted to (which I didn’t), it would be impossible to escape the fact that I’m at an Iron Maiden gig. The uniform here is the Iron Maiden tee, vintage preferably. You earn your stripes here: the older the T-shirt, the more loyal the wearer. This is the heavy metal army. The audience here have stood the test of time, just like Iron Maiden themselves. I attended opening night – well, in Los Angeles anyway. This was the first of two sold-out nights where the band are in town. Quite honestly, Los Angeles is the ideal climate for music under the stars, and Iron Maiden were born ready to make me mosh under the moonlight.

What happens when you switch on the lights inside a horror maze? The screams disappear, the monsters stop moving and suddenly the terrifying world designed to make you jump becomes a very different place. But after getting an exclusive behind the scenes look at SeaWorld’s latest horror attraction, I discovered that seeing how the scares work somehow made the experience even more enjoyable.

There really isn't much that could make Halloween Horror Nights more exciting for me than this. This week I found myself walking the blood-red carpet at Universal Studios Hollywood, getting an early look inside the brand-new Ozzy Osbourne Maze and speaking to Sharon Osbourne about the rather gruesome fate Universal has given her husband — being decapitated by a giant bat.
